Colorado Ski Country USA Spring Events 2007

(DENVER, Colo. - March 13, 2007) - Great temperatures combined with great events lead to great experiences. And there is no better time to experience what Colorado's 26 ski resorts have to offer than now. The gorgeous temperatures that are making their way around Colorado this week are the perfect precursor to the beer festivals, St. Patrick's Day celebrations, free concerts, ski and snowboard competitions and clinics that are on tap for March, April, and May. Here's a listing of what's going on in Ski Country this spring.

March 16, 2007 - Steamboat
Sister Hazel Concert

Friday night's show at 8:00pm at the top of the gondola will be an all request show! Pick and choose songs from all previous Sister Hazel albums to build the "Perfect Hazel Set List" for the Friday night show! An online poll will be available at www.sisterhazel.com for ticket holders to vote on their favorite songs. The band will play whichever songs get the most votes. In addition, the first 100 ticket holders will be invited to a private autograph session! Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge

Free to the public, the Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge is a dual GS style ski race open to all ages and abilities. Registration starts at 8am on the deck of the day lodge. The race takes place between 10:00am and 1:00pm with awards being presented at 3:00pm. Check out the sponsor expo area with samples, games, demos and lots of giveaways and enjoy music all day long.

Party with Paddy in River Run

Join us for a wee bit o' fun in River Run. Ever tried the "jig" or step-dancing in ski boots? River Run's "Party with Paddy" features live entertainment, Irish fare and lip-smacking brews. Irish or not, kick off the long-celebrated Saint Patrick's Day at Keystone with food and beverage specials at many of River Run's restaurants and bars. The event takes place at the Events Plaza in River Run from 1:00-5:00pm.

St. Patrick's Day Rail Jam

For $5 guests can register for Powderhorn's St. Patrick's Day Rail Jam. Prize packs given for best style, most creative trick, and best use of green. Registration starts at 1:00pm and the jam begins at 2:00pm.

6th Annual Mavericks Superpipe Challenge
Skiers and riders will compete in the SOBE Terrain Park for title, cash and prizes during the 6th Annual Mavericks Superpipe Challenge on St. Patrick's Day in Steamboat. The event features competitions for both men and women skiers and snowboarders.

Bud Light Rocks The Boat Free Concert
Sister Hazel will perform in Gondola Square on Saturday March 17th as part of the Bud Light Rocks the Boat Free Concert Series. The concert starts at 3 pm and admission is free! Presented by the Steamboat Ski & Resort Corporation, sponsored by Bud Light, Smartwool and KFMU.

St. Patrick's Day Torchlight Parade And Fireworks

Don't miss the trail of torches light up the mountain as the Steamboat Ski and Snowboard School Parade down the mountain. The view is great from both the base of the mountain, or even from downtown, but the best viewing is from Gondola Square at the base of the ski area starting at 8:00pm.

Dave Genchi Benefit Concert

Big Head Todd and the Monsters will play a benefit concert for Dave Genchi at 7:30pm on March 21st at the Steamboat Grand Resort Hotel. This special show will be comprised of a unique set of songs not featured when the band plays the next day in Gondola Square. Tickets for the Big Head Todd benefit concert are on sale for $30 and may be purchased at the following locations: All That Jazz, Christy Sports-Central Park Plaza, the Gondola Square Sport Stalker and at the door. NASTAR National Championship

The Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships, the world's largest ski and snowboard competition, is the ultimate reward for anyone who races NASTAR. For the second year, the event will bring together over 1300 NASTAR racers of all age and abilities from across the country. In addition to exciting competition, racers will have the chance to hang with a few of ski racing's all-time greats including Steamboat Director of Skiing, Olympic medalist and World Champion Billy Kidd.

March 22-24, 2007 - Crested Butte
11th Annual U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Telemark Championships

Over 100 free-heelers take to the slopes to compete in this Telemark freeskiing event complete with a welcome reception and awards party. The two-day big mountain event attracts the biggest names in the telemark industry and is unique to Crested Butte. Free telemark demos and specialty clinics also take place during this telemark celebration culminating with the legendary Al Johnson Race.

March 22-25, 2007 - Snowmass
The 7th annual Bud Light Spring Jam

The 7th annual Bud Light Spring Jam kicks off on Thursday March 22nd in Snowmass with the 5th free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert of the season featuring JJ Grey & MOFRO. Also on Thursday is Boot Camp which offers free terrain park training on beginner rails in a special area created on Snowmass. On Friday the Bud Light Big Air Friday competition in Snowmass continues followed by the much anticipated CORE Party in downtown Aspen featuring Ozomatli. Saturday's action is going to be on fire with the Red Bull SCS Sledstyle demo on Snowmass with the best freestyle snowmobile athletes jumping and flipping. Saturday night, downtown Aspen is the place to be for the KickAspen Big Air at the base of Aspen Mountain. The action wraps up on Sunday in Snowmass with the first ever Snowmass Rail Revolution with the best athletes around jibbing for cash and prizes. To wrap the weekend will be the 6th free Bud Light Hi-Fi on Sunday in the Snowmass Village Mall. All events and activities are free and open to the public.

American Ski Classic

Skiing legends, entertainment celebrities and corporate America join together on the slopes of Vail Mountain during the Countrywide American Ski Classic. This event combines the thrill of both professional and amateur ski racing with an array of entertainment options for fans of all ages. The American Ski Classic is the oldest and largest skiing competition and festival of its kind in North America. The event culminates with a charitable gala dinner and auction.

March 23-25, 2007 - Crested Butte
Babes in the Butte Women's Free Heel Weekend by Babes in the Backcountry

Babes in the Backcountry is dedicated to educating women in outdoor skills to enable them to become more knowledgeable, self reliant and confident in the backcountry. The weekend will include a skills clinic, evening yoga, après ski parties, demo skis, Al Johnson registration, and a lift ticket.

US Jumping and Nordic Combined Championships
Steamboat will host the Jumping/Nordic Combined Championships for the fifth time at historic Howelsen Hill, the birthplace of Nordic Jumping in Colorado. See America's brightest Special Jumping and Nordic Combined athletes compete for the overall title of best in the United States.

Subaru Master the Mountain

This learn to ski and snowboard event allows skiers and snowboarders to learn more about their sports compliments of Subaru. The event includes a free one-hour lesson, expert instruction by Eldora Ski School, behind the scenes mountain tours, safety tips, and life-saving rescue demos by Eldora patrollers.

Love Park Vert Alert

Skiers and riders prove their skills at the 4th annual Vert Alert.  Open to the first 80 skiers or riders of any age or ability. Enjoy Wahoo's Fish Tacos and Mountain Dew for lunch, with prizes for top finishers and raffle for everyone else.

Special Olympics Colorado Winter Games

Copper Mountain will host athletes from around the state during in the 29th annual Special Olympics Colorado Winter Games. This season's Winter Games mark the 19th consecutive year Copper has hosted the event which includes alpine skiing, alpine snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

Jonny Moseley Mountain Experience

Jonny Moseley, King of the Bumps and Telluride Ski Resorts new Ambassador of Skiing joins forces with the Telluride Ski & Snowboard School for three days of heart-pumping on-snow training for intermediate through advanced ski and snowboard enthusiasts. Jonny and the Telluride team will coach participants in big mountain riding, park skiing, and how to ski the bumps like Jonny. Three days of training, video analysis, lift tickets, lunch, snacks and an evening party are all included in the three day camp.

10th Annual Elk Mountain Grand Traverse

The Grand Traverse is an extreme endurance race that links Crested Butte to Aspen. At the stroke of midnight, cross-country skiers start out over a 40-mile course that takes them from the base of Mt. How Fast Can You Go? It's simple. The racer who clocks the best time in each event category wins Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals. Winners from individual events are invited to return and compete in the Series Regional Finals at Steamboat on March 31. The Mountain Dew Vertical Challenge is a fun and exciting series of over 50 Ski and Snowboard Races held at the top resorts in the U.S. The races are free for all skiers and boarders holding a valid lift ticket. Boatercross Returns - Second annual Kayaks on Snow at Monarch Mountain

Kayaks return to the slopes of Monarch Mountain April 7, 2007.  Boatercross sends multiple kayaks down a specially constructed Boatercross course with banked corners, berms, rollers and small jumps on Freeway run. The event can be viewed from the base lodge deck and is free to the public. Kayakers from the Colorado, New Mexico region will be competing for prizes and bragging rights. Come see Snowboarder Magazine's legendary celebration of progressive freestyle riding. From April 12-15, Keystone hosts the world's best park builders as they create innovative features for the most transcendent riders around. Riders including Chaz Guldemond, Peter Line,Shaun White and Travis Rice will charge for four days straight on features created by cutters from Keystone, Bear and Boreal. Suncare Summit

Breckenridge Ski Resort teamed up with Rocky Mountain Sunscreen and Sacred Tree, a local wellness center, to educate and build awareness about skin cancer and the importance of sun protection, especially for outdoor enthusiasts (of all ages) in high alpine environments. Day 1: Join Rocky Mountain Sunscreen founder David Erickson to learn about skin cancer prevention and pick up samples and literature from the American Cancer Society. Winter Park Resort's Spring Splash is the oldest tradition of its kind and on its 39th year. The athletics begin at 11a.m. as spectators watch skiers and snowboarders struggle through numerous obstacles on the race course on Larry Sale trail. Skimming across a pond of icy water is required to reach the finish line and post a time. Live music enhances the festive atmosphere.  All this action marks closing day at Winter Park Resort. The 5th Annual Marmot Grind

The Marmot Grind is the championship race of the five race COSMIC (Colorado Ski Mountaineering Cup) series. The series is designed to introduce new participants to backcountry skiing as well as challenge the veteran skier. Races are modeled after European randonee events with competitors beginning on foot and running to clip into their skis. Athletes skin uphill on a challenging course and race down to the finish. Race category vertical is approximately 4,500 ft, recreational 2,000ft. Categories include: race, recreational, telemark, and snowboard divisions. 6th Annual Corn Harvest Benefit Ski Party

Help raise funds to support the Colorado Avalanche Information Center. Meet and ski with some of the folks from CAIC, and show support by letting them know the Colorado backcountry community appreciates their efforts. But it's more than a benefit; it's a good time with old friends and new at Loveland Ski Area. Hawaiian shirts are encouraged!
