SKIERS COME TO COLORADO FOR THE SNOW, STAY FOR THE EXPERIENCE
DENVER, Colo., December 5, 2007 - Many skiers and riders may come to Colorado for the 300 annual inches of snow and 300 days of sunshine, but they stay for the experience. Skiing and snowboarding competitions, winter festivals, and big name bands are just a few of the attractions not to be missed in Ski Country this winter.
When it comes to exciting events, the holiday season is no exception. You may not see Santa's sleigh, but there will be plenty of other high fliers at The Chevrolet U.S. Snowboard Grand Prix in Breckenridge December 11-16. The series kicks off in Breckenridge and is the exclusive snowboard tour in the U.S., featuring the top riders in America vying for $300,000 in cash prizes at world class venues. The event will also include a night-time exhibition under the lights on Saturday, December 15 in historic downtown Breckenridge.
Santa kicks off his Colorado mountain tour by visiting Ski Cooper on December 22. Then on December 24, Santa and his Elves head south to the San Juans to ski Monarch and hand out candy at Durango. Santa will then dash over to Wolf Creek that same day to spread some holiday cheer to more skiers and riders.
Christmas Eve night, torchlight parades will illuminate the sky above resorts all over Colorado. A long-standing holiday tradition at Copper Mountain, the torchlight parade weaves its way down the mountain as The Village at Copper sparkles with holiday animation. In Crested Butte, families can join the festivities with a kids' torchlight parade that takes place through Kids World.
Continuing the family theme on New Year's Eve, SolVista is holding a kids' parade (complete with glow sticks), a synchronized ski down the mountain, and a fireworks display. For those who want to grind in the New Year, Powderhorn is holding a New Year's Rail Jam, torchlight parade, fireworks, and live band until midnight. Bus service will be provided from Grand Junction.
It all began more than 30 years ago when a few ProRodeo stars were invited to Steamboat for a day of skiing. Now In its 32nd year, the Annual Bud Light Cowboy Downhill has become Steamboat's most popular event of the season. With over 100 professional rodeo cowboys competing, the buck stops on January 22, 2008.
Moving from ProRodeos to backside rodeos, the annual Winter X Games in Aspen is the premier winter action sports event in the world, featuring athletes from across the globe competing in skiing, snowboarding, and snowmobile competitions for medals and prize money. Don't miss ESPN's Winter X Games 11 in Aspen on January 24-27, 2008 or the free Bud Light Hi-Fi Concert on January 24.
The 2008 Suzuki U.S. Freeskiing Open Championships at Copper Mountain is freeskiing's most prestigious event. Every year, the Suzuki U.S. Freeskiing Open Championships finds the newest talent in freeskiing, and this year promises to be no different. See athletes from around the world compete in three different disciplines: Slopestyle, Superpipe, and Big Air. View the talent January 31- February 3, 2008.
