January is Learn to Ski/Ride Month in Colorado

DENVER, Colo. December 5, 2007 - Those who ski and live in Colorado have long known winter sports are some of the best ways to maintain an active, healthy lifestyle.  Colorado is often recognized as one of the healthiest states, boasting some of the nation's most physically fit cities and counties that have the greatest average life expectancy.

It is with this in mind that Colorado Ski Country USA (CSCUSA) is making its own New Year's resolution. The organization is resolving to help more people achieve their 2008 fitness goals by making it affordable and easy to get off the couch and on the slopes. CSCUSA has declared January as "Learn to Ski & Snowboard" month, and resorts are offering numerous packages designed with beginners in mind.

The following are just a few of the packages Colorado resorts are offering beginners this season:

  • Not many skiers can say they started skiing at age three. Durango Mountain Resort's Powder Pigs program helps kids do just that. For $79, Durango Mountain provides a full day of instruction, lunch and skis for the little ones.
  • Too old for Powder Pigs?  Loveland's Adult Newcomer 3 Class Pass is for first time adult skiers or snowboarders, the cost is $72 for the first lesson and $87 each for lesson two and three, with a FREE season pass at the end of the third lesson.  The first lesson package includes: 2.5 hour lesson, Beginner lift ticket and equipment rental package. The second and third lesson packages include: 2.5 hour lesson, All Mountain lift ticket and equipment rental package. This program is pay as you go only, pre-purchase is not available.
  • Here's a deal that is great for the whole family.  SolVista Basin offers an incredible $129 Get on the Snow beginner package that includes lift tickets, full-day lessons and rentals for two days. Upon completion of the two-day program, guests receive free skiing the remainder of the season and a $20 credit towards a retail merchandise purchase in the SolVista retail shop!
  • Winter Park's Easy Start First Timer program is for guests looking to learn the easy way. Those 14 and older receive a half-day lesson, lift ticket and rentals for $49.
