Brings Five Feet of Fresh Snow to Colorado
Resorts Stay Open and Offer Powder Skiing Conditions
DENVER, Colo. - April 20, 2009 - April has brought a significant
amount of snow to Colorado as storms continue to drum across Ski
Country. Colorado resorts received a walloping from Mother Nature
this weekend with accumulating snow totals up to 60 inches at some
resorts. The weekend was marked by significant snowfall totals and
end-of-the season celebrations. The snow storm took it's time
crossing the state over the weekend and in its wake left 62 inches
of new snow at Arapahoe Basin and 60 inches at Echo Mountain.
Both Arapahoe Basin and Echo Mountain remain open for the 2008-09
season. Echo Mountain has extended the season and will open for the
weekend of May 2nd and 3rd. The resort is operating under spring
hours for skiing and riding and will host the annual Last Park
Standing park competition and party. Details can be found at
www.echomtnpark.com
Arapahoe Basin, the Colorado resort with the longest ski season, is
gearing up for the Big Air Competition and the 7th Annual Marmot
Grind, both happening this week. The resort is scheduled to close
for the season in late May.
Colorado's weekend storm pummeled both Loveland Ski Area and Winter
Park Resort with 34 inches of fresh snow. While Winter Park closed
for the season on Sunday, Loveland remains open for skiing and
riding until early May with a unique offer for pass holders from
other areas. For the remainder of their season, Loveland is
offering discount lift tickets to anyone that presents a 2008-2009
season pass from another ski area. "We would like to remind
people that the ski season isn't over until you say it is," said
John Sellers, marketing director at Loveland Ski
Area. "Loveland would like to invite season pass holders from
other ski areas to come see what Loveland is all about at a
discounted rate. If your mountain is closed for the season,
but you still want to make some turns in this great, spring
snow, just show your season pass at the ticket window and
you can purchase a lift ticket for only $30."
In the central mountains, the winter-like storm socked Aspen
Highlands with more than 15 inches of fresh snow. The resort will
be open for two more days this season, April 25th and 26th. Skiers
and riders will be able to use the Exhibition, Loge Peak, Cloud
Nine and Deep Temerity lifts that will run daily from 9 a.m. to 2
p.m., providing access to the entire mountain including Highland
Bowl (conditions permitting). Lift tickets will be offered at $39
per day for adults. Youth and seniors can purchase tickets for $29
and children's tickets will be $19. Additionally, Aspen/Snowmass
will offer current season passholders from any other resort in the
country, discounted lift tickets at $19. Furthermore, select
lodging accommodations are offering direct-to-lodge savings for the
resort's last two days of the 2008-09 season. Details can be found
at
www.AspenSnowmass.com.
In the southwest part of Colorado, Wolf Creek, which re-opened last
weekend for two days, reported 20 inches of new snow. And Silverton
Mountain, whose last day was Sunday, received two feet of new snow.
Copper Mountain celebrated the last day of the season with the
Sunsation event and 16 inches of fresh spring snow.
