WEEKEND POWDER PLAY BOOSTS
COLORADO SKI COUNTRY
Sustained Winter Blast Creates Utopian Skiing Conditions
throughout Colorado
Denver, Colo. - February 22, 2010 - As the US Hockey Team
capitalized on power plays to overcome Canada in Olympic hockey,
Old Man Winter made a powder play to give the Colorado ski season a
major boost. A week of consistent snow in Colorado's high country
was capped off this weekend with accumulation totaling as much as
30 inches at some resorts. Double-digit snow totals could be seen
throughout Colorado, from Aspen/Snowmass to Wolf Creek.
With 30 inches, Powderhorn Resort on the Grand Mesa received the
most snow over the past 48 hours. Powderhorn barely edged out Wolf
Creek Ski Area, which registered 29 inches over the weekend, with
skiers there enjoying a 128-inch base. (Photos: Powderhorn, Wolf
Creek)

On Saturday and Sunday, Silverton and Monarch each added 18 inches
to the several feet those resorts had received in the previous
week. Monarch is also boasting receiving fresh snow for the last 19
days in a row. (photos: Silverton, Monarch)
Telluride and Aspen Mountain welcomed a new 16 inches in the last
two days. Snowmass and Purgatory at Durango Mountain Resort are
reporting 15 inches, Aspen Highlands 14 inches, and Buttermilk is
reporting 12. Just up the road, skiers and riders at Sunlight
Mountain Resort are happy with the fresh 11 inches that resort
received over the weekend.

Closer to the Front Range, Winter Park is measuring 13.5 inches of
light snow since Saturday morning. Winter Park's northern neighbor,
SolVista Basin, has all lifts open with a new five inches on the
slopes. (photo: Winter Park)
The powder didn't stop there. Crested Butte is skiing butte-fully,
with 10 inches of fresh. Eldora, Steamboat, and Howelsen Hill also
added seven inches to their runs over the weekend. Nearly half-
of-a-foot of powder blanketed Arapahoe Basin and Echo Mountain too.
Enough snow has fallen over Arapahoe Basin in the last week that
the resort announced it will open its Montezuma Bowl terrain on
Wednesday, February 24.
Loveland Ski Area added four new inches over the weekend to the
snow that it received last week. Ski Cooper is also happy with new
snow, reporting powder and packed powder conditions.
